workers at Sheffield’s household waste recycling centres are striking again this weekend as part of their long-running protest over cuts to opening hours.
Sites at Deepcar and on Blackstock Road in Gleadless Valley will be closed today and tomorrow due to the industrial action.
But sites at Longley Avenue West, Shirecliffe; Beighton Road, Woodhouse; and Greaves Lane, High Green, will be open on both days between 10am and 6pm.
The striking workers, who are members of the GMB union, have given notice to strike every weekend through September.
Coun Jack Scott, Sheffield Council cabinet member for environment, recycling and streetscene, said: “It is regrettable that this action is still going ahead.”
Coun Scott added: “If we had another option to stop this action we would take it but, given the financial position the council is in, this is just not possible.”
