Move to end car parking problems

Extra parking is being provided for staff at a private hospital following a long dispute.

Residents complained cars had been left on grass verges and across driveways near to the Claremont Hospital in Sandygate. They also claimed that an ambulance had difficulties getting through because of double parking.

Hospital bosses arranged spaces at the Crosspool and District Youth Sports Trust and at Tapton Masonic Hall, with a park-and-ride service. And after a meeting with residents and Crookes ward Labour councillor Anne Murphy, the hospital is to provide extra places at the Plough Inn, on Sandygate Road.

Hospital director Andy Davey said the measures had ‘greatly helped to alleviate the problem’, adding: “There is a lot of investment at Claremont and over the coming years I will be working with our architects to look at additional on-site parking.”
