Mum's horror after her Sheffield student son is found dead
The mother of a Sheffield student has spoken of the harrowing moment she was told her son had been found dead in his bed.
Yianni Hadjigeorgiou, aged 25, who is originally from Leyland in Lancashire, was described as a ‘much-loved son and brother’ who had a talent for sport.
The University of Sheffield student was about to become a trainee solicitor and was due to begin a training contract with global law firm DLA Piper.
His heartbroken mum Diane Oakden was told the news of his death over the weekend.
She said: “I’m just hoping it’s a nightmare and I’m going to wake up, but it isn’t.”
“He was just a good person and a good son, and I’m very proud of him.”
At 5am on Sunday, May 1, Diane was given the devastating news by police that Yianni had died suddenly.
“I was asleep when I heard the knock on the door, and then your life changes forever,” said his heartbroken mum.
“He said, ‘There’s no easy way to tell you - he’s passed away.’
“Then I just screamed. I felt like I had completely lost control.
“I’m just hoping it’s a nightmare and I’m going to wake up, but it isn’t.”
It is not yet known how Yianni died, but he was found in his bed in Sheffield, where he had been studying.
The funeral has been provisionally arranged for Wednesday, May 11.
