New police online reporting system used over 1,300 times
A new online way of contacting South Yorkshire Police has been used 1,365 times since it was introduced.
Police chiefs gave the go-ahead for the online form to be introduced after listening to feedback from members of the public.
It can be used to report non-urgent incidents as an alternative to calling 101.
Since the form was launched in October 2015, 1,365 incidents have been reported to South Yorkshire Police that way.
The form has been used to report nuisance behaviour, theft from vehicles, criminal damage, road traffic incidents and threatening behaviour.
It can be accessed via the South Yorkshire Police website and takes about 10 minutes to complete.
Once the form has been submitted it goes to call handlers, who deal with all the 101 and 999 calls.
Tracy Potter head of force communications, said: “We understand it can be frustrating when you can’t get through to the 101 number. With nearly 2,000 calls a day, the call handlers are extremely busy but try to answer your calls as fast as possible.
“However, sometimes there is a delay on the 101 number so this form gives you another option to report your incident to us. I want to reassure people that, any reports that come via the form are dealt with in exactly the same way as if you called 101.”
