Wind turbine blown out

PLANS for a wind turbine site Westwood Country Park near High Green have died down.

The city council approved a feasibility study for a pilot scheme to test the potential for wind turbine energy generation in 2008 but cabinet member for environment Leigh Bramall told the latest monthly meeting: “The council has no current plans to install a wind turbine in Westwood Country Park.”

Botham’s city date

FORMER international cricketer Ian Botham will pass through Sheffield next May on a fundraising walk across the country to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

The 55-year-old’s route from Glasgow to Richmond in Surrey covers 10 towns and cities in 10 days. He has raised £12m for the charity since his first charity walk from John O’Groats to Land’s End in 1985.

Peak walkers rescued

EDALE and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams were called to help two walkers in separate incidents in the Edale area on Saturday night.

A 46-year-old man from Repton, Derbyshire, dislocated his shoulder while walking in Grindsbrook Gorge and a 66-year-old man from Bournemouth collapsed with exhaustion near Edale Cross.

Scooter rider hurt

A SCOOTER rider injured his pelvis when he hit a parked car and was thrown into the path of a moving car in Deerlands Avenue, Parson Cross, last Saturday at 7pm.

Totley on show

TOTLEY holds its annual produce and craft show on Saturday at Totley Primary School. Registration and judging of entries takes place in the morning and it is open to the public from 1.30pm.

There will be two performances in the afternoon by Escafeld Brass Band at the start of the week-long Totley Music Festival, now in its third year.
