Train assault probe

BRITISH Transport Police this week appealed for information after a female train conductor was assaulted on a train at Sheffield station.

A worker with East Midlands Train had finished her shift and was still in uniform when she got on the Northern service to Chapeltown .Two passengers, who are believed to have had an issue with EMT, began to verbally abuse her, then one tried to trip her up.

The men, both white and in their mid to late 20s, are believed to have got off the train at Chapeltown after the incident, which took place at around 9.40pm on Monday, July 18.

Lifesaving thanks

A SHEFFIELD man returned to Hillsborough Leisure Centre to thank the staff who saved his life after he suffered a cardiac arrest.

Mike Higginbottom, aged 63, collapsed in the gym a year ago. Staff called for an ambulance and used an automated electronic defibrillator that had been donated just a few months before by Westfield Health.

They had been trained in basic life support by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

Farm fair returns

WHIRLOW Farm Trust’s annual farm fair, including a horticultural show and craft marquee, returns on Sunday, September 18.

Admission is £6 for adults, free for children.
