Rovers welcome second placed Plymouth to the Keepmoat on Sunday, holding a six point advantage at the top of the table.

And Ferguson believes victory would take his side a long way towards being crowned champions.

“We’re six points ahead of Plymouth and next week is a cup final now,” Ferguson said.

“If we win that we’re nine points ahead with seven games to go. That’s how we’re going to look at it.

“We felt a little bit hard done by when we got beat at their place so it’s a massive game.

“It’s a chance for us to keep our unbeaten home record going but it’s clear as day, if we win we’re nine points clear of the team in second and that’s what we’ll try to do.”

Rovers maintained their lead at the top of the table with a 4-1 win at Leyton Orient on Saturday.

John Marquis took his tally for the season to 23 with a brace while Tommy Rowe and Mathieu Baudry also netted.

Goalkeeper Ian Lawlor was withdrawn at half time due to injury, with Marko Marosi replacing him.

Ferguson said: “Ian’s just felt his groin and it was getting worse so he couldn’t really kick.

“We’ll look at Ian and hope he’s fine. I’m pretty optimistic he will be, it’s just a niggle on his groin, I wouldn’t anticipate he’ll be out for next week.

“Marko came on and was a wee bit rusty. He was fine, he didn’t have much to do.”
