No heat on Sheffield Wednesday, says head coach Carvalhal
Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal has insisted that his side are not feeling any pressure ahead of Saturday's crunch game with Cardiff City at Hillsborough.
It’s sixth against seventh in the race to secure the last play-off place, but Wednesday hold the upper hand as they are currrently four points ahead of their nearest rivals, with two games remaining, and have a far superior goal difference.
A draw would be enough to make sure the Owls’ aren’t traveling to Wolves the following week in need of a result, but Carvalhal won’t be relying on merely gaining a point and will be instructing his side to go all out for three.
The prospect of a near full house at home is a factor the boss is relishing, with the Portuguese looking forward to experiencing the ‘power of Hillsborough’.
“The next game is important, we know that one point is enough to achieve the sixth position but we play all the games, all the season to try to win and to try for the three points,” the Portuguese said.
“We will do exactly the same in the next game and after we will see.”
He added: “We do not feel pressure, we still have two games to play but of course our focus is on Saturday.
“We need to continue what we are doing, with the quality that we are doing and we expect a nice environment on Saturday with our fans. I’m absolutely sure we will show the power of Hillsborough.”
The reason for Carvalhal’s relaxed outlook is the fact he maintains Wednesday are one of the Championship’s ‘outsiders’.
He said: “The teams above us have been relegated or they are doing big bets to be promoted or they have been going for promotion for two or three years.
“Some of them have the same coaches, some of them with almost all the same players. We are completely different.
“Some of them below us they wish a lot to be promoted and they prepare very well to be promoted. As I say from the beginning, we are outsiders.”
