Adam White is personal training manager at Sheffield’s Fitness Unlimited scheme. Adam is responsible for growing its personal training service across a number of the city’s venues, including Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, Hillsborough Leisure Centre and the English Institute of Sport Sheffield. Fitness Unlimited celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. It launched in 2000, and over the last decade-and-a-half has invested more than £20 million in its fitness facilities, benefitting almost 30 per cent of the city’s population. The scheme, which is part of the Sheffield City Trust, has 18,000 members in Sheffield and delivers 200,000 lane swims and 370 fitness classes every year. Adam, aged 29, lives in Beighton with his partner, Amber, and his four-year-old son, Cayden.
I am a massive follower of Sheffield Wednesday. All my family support them and I started going to matches at Hillsborough Stadium when I was about five. I’ve got a season ticket now which I’ve had for about four years, and I go to away matches when I can, especially to the grounds that I haven’t been to before.
Unfortunately during the glory days of the 1990s I was too young to really enjoy or understand the success they had and for the last 10 years have had to endure some horrible times. But under new ownership and under fantastic guidance from Milan we look to be back on the right track.
My son, Cayden, is just starting to show an interest in football and now has his own kit, so I’m hoping he’ll be coming with me to Hillsborough next season to keep the family tradition going!
Whenever we are going out for a meal for a special occasion, we always choose Piccolino’s. The service is always second to none and the staff go above and beyond – I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys Italian cuisine.
When we went recently our table wasn’t ready when we arrived and when it was, although it was only a few minutes late, they upgraded the bottle of champagne we had on order. It’s the little things like that which make it special.
I’m a creature of habit and usually order the same thing every time – bruschetta for starter, then main course is a pizza and tiramisu for dessert, all washed down with a bottle of champagne!
I know this is not technically classed as Sheffield but it is somewhere just on our doorstep that offers some fantastic views and scenery and is so easily accessible from where I live.
Photography is a big hobby of mine and to have somewhere so close that offers so many different photo opportunities and moments that can be caught through a lens is fantastic. Chatsworth and Ladybower Reservoir are my favourite places in the Peaks.
Rother Valley Country Park
Rother Valley Country Park is within walking distance from our house and when you go there first thing in the morning as the sun is rising you can completely forget that you only live a couple of minutes away. During the summer you can take part in several water sports, including canoeing, windsurfing and even water zorbing, or simply relax with a disposable BBQ and enjoy all the outdoor space. The winter also offers some fantastic scenery views and really makes you feel that you are in a winter wonderland, so you really can make the most of what it has to offer all year round.
I’ve been going to the Motorpoint Arena since I was a child and I have lots of fond memories there. I remember going to see some wrestling when I was younger with some of the big names at the time like Hulk Hogan. I’ve also seen some great music stars perform there too. In 2013 I was lucky enough to get a ticket to the rehearsal show Michael Buble did in aid of the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity and he was brilliant. There was fantastic entertainment throughout - from the band to Michael’s vocals and stage presence. The Motorpoint Arena has always had a reputation for securing some of the biggest worldwide artists and this is something that hasn’t changed. I feel really lucky to have such an amazing venue on my doorstep.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park
Again, this is another great place we are lucky to have so close to home. I visit here a couple of times a year, again to allow me to practise my photography but also to take my family on a fun day out. There are a range of animals, some of which you can get really up close and personal with, and it’s very easy for us to spend all day there.
