Letters: Frustration and anger at what passes as a ‘Bus Service’ in our local area

As a councillor for the Stannington ward on both Sheffield City Council and Bradfield Parish Council, I wish to express my constituents frustration and anger at what passes as a ‘bus service’ in our area and other areas in Sheffield.

Over the last 2 days I have been told of 7 missing 82 buses! Yesterday the 09.42;12.35;15.45;16.08. Today, so far, it’s only 12noon and the 08.23;10.22 and the 10.45 were missing.

This is ridiculous! It isn’t as if we haven’t tried to work with SYPTE and the bus company. We have had meetings with them and passed on information, as have some of our constituents.

One week the same bus was missing every morning. When we took it up with the bus company they explained why. This was a bus that came directly from the garage, every day the bus, 5 different buses in fact, had a different mechanical failure. None of them were replaced with an alternative bus. I am aware that the bus company has had problems with replacement parts. But, in this modern era it should be possible to sort that kind of problem without an impact on customers!

We have been trying to work with the bus company for a considerable time now. Enough is enough! I appeal to you to take this on board. The lack of a bus service in many parts of Sheffield is causing problems for individuals, businesses and the environment. We need action now to fix our buses.
