Oh joy of joys!
There was I wondering about how we would cope without RoJo and with Dirty L**ds’ two new players and we just completed a total demolition job, writes Steve Walmsley.
Or, in the words of their suffering manager, Brian McDermott, publicly humiliated them.
Yes, they were poor at the back but, as Steve Claridge said on the Football League Show, we were better from start to finish and in all departments.
Semedo and Kieran Lee (a midfield starter in the making?) dominated and provided a platform for the wingers and front two to get at their back four almost at will,
Even with 11 men, L**ds could have been three or four down at half-time.
With 10 men, they were lambs to the slaughter with Caolan Lavery performing the coup de grace!
Much happiness all round, although not much at Calendar and Look L**ds where two days of mourning were observed.
There was always the fear that Tuesday would be after the Lord Mayor’s Show.
Our inability to take opportunities in the first 30 minutes gave Macclesfield some heart, but in the end their fading energy levels told and, with JJ’s introduction, we finished them off to move into the fourth round.
Quite how MM is responding to all this is leaving us a bit bemused. Does he think he’s keeping Gray/Bully on their toes? Or does have a live plan to sell up and doesn’t want to tie hands?
I hope that the unwillingness to commit doesn’t turn everyone off.
We travel to Burnley tomorrow for a tough test against a very well organised and free scoring side, if we can maintain recent form we have a chance of getting something, though.
