Carlos Carvalhal is optimistic some of his injured stars will be available for selection again after the international break.

The Owls boss has been unable to call upon the services of Alex Lopez, Modou Sougou, Marco Matias and Michael Turner for several weeks.

Lopez was close to being named in the match-day squad last weekend, having shrugged off a thigh knock, while Sougou and Matias have taken part in light training after recovering from shoulder and hernia problems respectively.

Carvalhal has refused to put a timescale on when Turner will return to action. The centre-back, on loan from Norwich City, has not featured since the draw against his old club Hull City last month.

“Alex Lopez is close to recovering and so is Modou,” said the Wednesday boss. “We will see on Marco and Michael will probably need a bit more time.

“The break is good for us to recover energy, players and recharge batteries.”

Glenn Loovens is expected to shake off a hamstring injury in time to face Huddersfield Town next Saturday.

But influential midfielder Barry Bannan will miss out with a knee injury and remains a doubt for the trip to Blackburn Rovers the following week.

Jack Hunt also continues to receive treatment for his own knee problem.
