They had a lovely time – oh yes they did! Disabled youngsters and their families enjoyed a special performance of Dick Whittington at Ponds Forge sports centre.
The play was staged by The University of Sheffield’s Light Entertainment Society for members of the Sheffield Parent Carer Forum.
Excited children cheered, booed and hissed as they watched Dick and his cat battle to save London from the evil King Rat. With plenty of songs and slapstick, sign language interpretation and no loud bangs, the show was a hit with children who can find regular performances difficult.
One of the parents, Joanne Ferguson, who watched the show with daughter Stella, 12, said: “I thought it was fantastic. I can’t take Stella to a normal theatre because she wouldn’t cope, but here was fine.”
