Ian Dykes has made the app, a complete guide to the Peak District called Peaky Finders, after realising he could not easily find out information about his new home.

He said: “I fell in love with a local girl on the internet who lived in Wirksworth. We decided to marry and I moved here, and what a fabulous place this is.

“My love of the whole area soon got me wanting to find out more information, which I quickly found was not readily or conveniently available.

“I realized that finding out useful information, like pubs, events and services, was not as easy as one might expect.

“Of course most businesses today have websites but people need some guidance to find them.

“I thought it would be amazing and useful to have a comprehensive regional app which will benefit all who live here and visit here.”

Ian spent seven months building his app shortly after moving to the Peak District, and it has now been launched on the Apple Store and also the Google Play Store.

His aim is that it will include all information about the Peak District in one place, from the local weather to places to stay and events to attend.

Ian added: “Already on the app, you will find useful information like walks and cycling routes, weather, the position of defibrillators and electric charger points for cars and some local services.

“I want to put as much information on to make it as comprehensive as possible, so I’d like to add hotels, B&B’s, pubs, events, crafters, coffee shops, all services, rambles, vets, artists, gyms, tutors, psychics and health service; anything you want to let the world know about.

“I’d like the app to be a meeting ground for all people wanting to promote and enjoy our beautiful area and include anything that enriches life for locals and visitors.”

The app is available to download for free on the Apple Store and the Google Play Store but there is a charge of £35 a year for businesses that would like to be listed on the app.
