Kojo&Lee is a cooperative of hair stylists working together under one roof. Kojo&Lee offers a bespoke hairdressing experience as each stylist works independently in their own room.

Situated on Devonshire Street and tucked away on the top two floors of a beautiful old building, it has eight rooms with an interior full of natural materials to create a calm environment for anyone to visit.

Nikki-lee first started Kojo&Lee in 2015. She said: “After a career with Toni& Guy and two daughters I decided I wanted to set out on my own, so from building up from cutting hair in her basement to a room upstairs of the Gatsby (thank you James O Hara!) I was then ready to find my own place and Kojo&Lee was born.

I then went on to create Appurtenance in 2019 which is a lifestyle store within the salon and online. Offering clean haircare and collaborations with artists/makers and designers (more of which later.)

Creating the interior was a big part of the Kojo&Lee experience. With an organic, raw finish of paired back bare plaster walls, wooden floors and lots of plants, it creates a beautifully soft calm experience.

Being based on Devonshire Street we are so fortunate to have other incredible businesses on our doorstep. Steam Yard coffee Co. is our local - with delicious coffee and bakes - so hard to resist! Collard Manson just a few doors down is an independent fashion store with homeware too. It has been a long time favourite - one of the first shops I discovered when I moved to Sheffield (16 years ago) And still today it's one of my favourites, you'll find lots of pieces from here in my salon.

Freshmans Vintage Store up on Carver Street is truly part of the city having been going since 1995. They now offer a virtual personal shopper service which I used for my daughter over lockdown and it was brilliant!

Just down the road there's Plantology that looks after our plants at the salon and beautiful Moonko independent retailer just opposite and are a must visit!

MAKERS/ART/DESIGN

Within the Appurtenance shop I have been fortunate enough to collaborate with some super talented people. GREYSUITCLAY which was founded by Franky who creates stunning ceramics. She designed a beautiful collection of multi-purpose tumblers that matched in with our raw plaster walls. Artist Luiza Holub designs lino prints and created a collection of cards inspired by some of our Instagram pictures. We now have an extended collection of her cards. She also designed our H&S poster for COVID-19 last year which was great.

Beth Pegler is a jewellery designer that has a super popular range of necklaces and more - made with high quality rope in a palette of beautiful tones.

This past year I have also discovered Kauf studio which was founded by Charlotte Kaufman. Charlotte has created a beautiful collection of lingerie and nightwear all made in Sheffield. It's so beautiful!

A special mention for super duo HAARKON founded by India & Magnus. Haarkon Adventures documents their journeys that take them all over the world, with their first self published book in 2019 - they are now nearly onto their 4th! Design work for this series was by super talented Totally Okay (Nick Deakin)

India Hobson also does all the photography for our salon and Appurtenance which captures the salon perfectly.

As I spend a lot of my time around Sharrowvale Road I wanted to share a few of my favourites. Seven Hills Bakery and Pom kitchen are regulars for me as well as TONCO for delicious wine and small plates. Seven Hills for all of your breads/pastries/cakes as well as fruit & vegetables and other essential foods. Pom Kitchen has the most beautiful interior of pinks, with Aussie inspired vegan and vegetarian food which looks as good as it tastes plus an array of delicious hot drinks.

SHEFFIELD BOTANICAL GARDENS

I also spend plenty of time in the Sheffield Botanical Gardens, you'll see it lots on my Instagram! It's so beautiful and we are so fortunate to have it on our doorstep - especially over the past year.

And then over to Abbeydale Road where there are an incredible amount of independent businesses. Florist Swallows & Damsons creates stunning unique arrangements, Anna Potter (founder) has also created amazing installations all over the city including my salon.

Then just down the road you will find Bragazzi’s, an Italian deli & cafe - quite possibly the best sandwiches ever! And of course delicious Italian coffee.
