Permission granted for van to trade near school

An ice cream van has been allowed to trade near a Sheffield school by councillors - despite the school and police making objections.

Peter and Zoe Devoti will now be able to sell ice creams close to Tinsley Nursery Infants following the decision to grant street trading consent by licensing committee members.

Headteacher Karen Wilson told the council the van created a ‘dangerous obstruction to pedestrians and other road users’ when parked on Siemens Close, a dead end street, and Bawtry Road, near a pelican crossing.

Police agreed that young children’s safety was ‘at risk’, and officers attended the meeting on Tuesday to express their objections.
