Amid the turmoil in Sheffield city centre on Saturday when members of the English Defence League clashed with counter demonstrators, a group of Muslim men made their own statement by conducting afternoon prayers in the road on West Street.
For several hours police operated ‘kettles’ to keep apart the factions among an estimated 2,000 protestors. Around 1,000 officers were drafted in for an operation .
