Police check CCTV cameras following spate of van break-ins and criminal damage in Sheffield

Police officers are trawling through CCTV footage from cameras following a spate of vehicle break-ins and damage.

Over the weekend an Audi was stolen from Leebrook Place, Owlthorpe; tools were stolen from a van in Carter Hall Road, Charnock; number plates were taken from a van in Station Road, Woodhouse and wing mirrors were stolen from a van parked in Delves Drive, Hackenthorpe.

Vans were also damaged in Driver Street, Woodhouse Mill; Retford Road, Handsworth and Birklands Avenue, Handsworth, as thieves tried to break in.

Other vans were targeted in Delves Place, Hackenthorpe; Orgreave Close, Handsworth and Haxby Street, Normanton Springs.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: ”Our policing methods include both overt and covert patrols so you may not always see a police uniform or police vehicle.

“Please be assured we are patrolling this area focusing our attention on the reports of car crime and burglary.

“A CCTV trawl has started specifically around the weekend’s van crime.”

There force wants to hear from people with private cameras in the area.

Free vehicle security marking packs are available from Moss Way Police Station between 10am and 6pm.
