Vill Powell is to give his own performance of the Full Monty - to raise money for the treatment of cancer patients, writes Tom Bestwick.

The Sheffield FC player/coach will be joined on stage by Worksop Parramore striker Jamie Smith and others trying to raise £5,000 for the Northern General Macmillan Cancer Unit, the unit that looked after Powell’s late mum.

The event, on July 5 at the Firth Park WMC, Sheffield, (7.30pm) will feature two performances from Powell and his team as well as a live singing performance from Sophie Mei. Powell has already got his kit off once before, to raise charity cash. A couple of years ago, the former Sheffield Wednesday youth player raised £3,500 for the fight against motor neurone disease.

Powell said: “Cancer affects everybody in one way or another. The Northern General really looked after my mum and I want to give something back to them for what they did for her.”

“Sheffield FC lads won’t be joining me on stage, they all bottled it. They’ll be there to support me though.”

The event is a ticket only event and tickets are £10 and are available by contacting 07885805899.

There will also be a raffle draw and an auction on the night to help Powell reach his target.
