Formed in 2002, they consist Alex Turner, Matt Helders, Jamie Cook and Nick O’Malley after original member Andy Nicholson left a decade ago soon after release of Mercury Prize winning first of current five studio albums Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, still fastest-selling debut LP by a British band and Rolling Stone ranked 30th best initial album of all time.

The band began rehearsing at Yellow Arch Studios in Neepsend before June 13 2003 debut gig at The Grapes then recording demos at 2fly Studios with 18 tracks burnt as Beneath the Boardwalk compilation CD, referencing Snig Hill’s club, spawning local photographer Mark Bull’s Fake Tales of San Francisco online video.

Everything changed with October 17 2005 release of first Domino label single I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor (reprised here) that shot straight to chart top, toppling Robbie Williams. The rest, as they say, is modern music history.

Magnificent seven Brit Awards later, after headlining Glastonbury Festival twice, they also alias as Death Ramps, collaborating with Miles Kane and fellow Steel City songsmith Richard Hawley.
