VOLUNTEERS are giving a facelift to St Mark’s Pentecostal Church in Malin Bridge.

They are recycling wood from an old screen, pews and doors in the final phase of a £37,600 project that will create a new community room.

Structural improvements are being made, better heating and electrical systems installed and a new staircase installed with the help of a £30,080 grant from the Veolia Environmental Trust.

Pastor Patricia Hallam said: “It has always been our intention to reuse some of the wood in the church as it was still in excellent condition. Using it will keep a connection with the building’s history and will also cut waste and costs.”
