A TEAM of 20 heart attack researchers will put their best feet forward when they take part in a sponsored walk along Sheffield’s river banks.
Cristina Staicu a PhD student in the research department of the British Heart Foundation and Lauren Mallinson, the charity’s volunteer manager, are urging Sheffield residents to join them for the Five Weirs Walk.
The event takes place on September 11 and has been organised by British Heart Foundation volunteers from the University of Sheffield’s Department of Cardiovascular Science.
The new event marks five decades of investment in medical research by the British Heart Foundation.
Around 20 researchers, many whose vital work is funded by the charity, will walk five miles along the River Don from Meadowhall to Sheffield city centre.
Cristina said: “The Five Weirs walk is a wonderful way to enjoy nature in the city, get fit, have fun and save lives.
“Our research department members are looking forward to welcoming anyone who has been affected by heart disease or simply wants to help us raise funds for the next research leap forward.”
All funds raised will go to the BHF’s 50th anniversary Mending Broken Hearts Appeal.
The walk sets off from the picnic area at Meadowhall at 10am.
Entry is £5 for adults and children under 16 are free when accompanied by an adult.
Places are strictly limited so participants are encouraged to book early.
