Left back Ted Hemsley, who played for Sheffield United for nine years, made his final appearance for at Ewood Park against Blackburn Rovers on 1977.

Sadly Ted didn’t manage to go out on a win - the Lancashire side edged a 1-0 victory.

His Bramall Lane career involved some 247 games.

The Stoke-born defender and skilled cricketer (he played first class for Worcestershire between 1962-1982) moved on to Doncaster Rovers for two seasons before retiring from football.
