Revealed: Ten things not to miss at this year's packed Sheffield Food Festival

Organisers at Events Collective said the eighth ever city centre food festival had a ‘packed’ schedule.

This year’s event from May 26- 28 will include more than 35 independent traders in the street food market - one of the most popular elements of the festival - and 50 stalls in the artisan food market. There are also dozens of workshops, events and tastings on the menu.

Here are ten of the best things lined up for this year’s bumper festival.

1: Incredible bakes from 4eyespatisserie, at the artisan market.

Keep your eyes peeled for these colourful and intricate pastries and cakes, which will be on sale as part of the artisan market along the Peace Gardens, Town Hall Square and the Peace Gardens.

Everything from Sheffield made chutneys to teas will be for sale in this section.

2: Livvy’s Ice Cream, at the street food market.

Weird and wonderful flavours are the norm at this modern gelato business, including Marmite and cheese ice cream. They also ran a competition where you can design a flavour for the festival. New traders in the street food market include Fizz and Fromage, serving mac and cheese with prosecco, and pan-Asian food from Little Somboon Kitchen.

3: Joe Hunt’s chef demonstration, at the theatre kitchen

Sheffield College’s Silver Plate restaurant is a training ground for the next generation of chefs, and serves fantastic food.

Learn how to make your own pasta in this demonstration from Joe. Top restaurants including Rafters, Nether Green, and Peppercorn in Dore, are also hosting demonstrations.

You can even learn how to make cheese at home, and there will be a ‘ready, steady cook’ challenge each day.

4: Sheffield Food Festival supper club, at the theatre kitchen

Dine into the evening with this five course meal with matched drinks from Broomhill restaurant Proove on Saturday May 26. Expect canapes, fizz and Italian street food. Tickets are limited to 50 people and cost £50 per person. Contact Proove to book.

5: The Gravy Train, at the Eats, Beats and Treats village

There’s a night market vibe to the Eats, Beats and Treats village on Fargate which was launched last year. Wash down a beer from Stancill or Sentinel with poutine (a posh chips, cheese and gravy) from The Gravy Train.

Or if you feel virtuous, try the Fro By Joy frozen dessert.

6: Pop up tearoom, Orchard Square

Order gooey, indulgent cakes to your table while dining al fresco in the new pop up tearoom. And there’s even a colouring wall or live music to entertain guests.

7: Food Futures, Sheffield Town Hall

This one day programme of workshops and advice targeted at entrepreneurs will allow Sheffield businessmen or women to share their industry expertise with those just starting out on the Saturday.

Alongside this will be the Innovators Market, with local start ups and microbusinesses showcasing their wares, and organisations such as Launchpad Mentoring, Sheffield Hallam and the NMTF providing information about the support on offer.

8: Tastings Table, Sheffield Town Hall

Love chocolate? Learn more about it with these tastings from bean-to-bar Kelham Island business Bullion Chocolate on the Saturday. Tickets cost £5 through Eventbrite.

9: Say cheers, Fountain Bar, Peace Gardens

Two special edition beers from award winning local microbrewery On The Edge Brewery have been produced just for Sheffield Food Festival.

They will be on sale along with beer from other local breweries.

10: Make your own food (and a Mr Potato Head), Winter Garden

Family fun activities through the weekend include making a Mr Potato Head, making pizza and decorating biscuits.

Crafts will also take place in Millennium Square and there is a bee hive activity.
