RSPCA in Sheffield needs pennies for pets

The centre needs to raise £10,000 to pay for boiler and heating system repairs or replacements to keep the animals warm.

It costs £2,000 a day to run the centre, which relies entirely on fundraising, donations, money raised in its charity shops and cash left in wills.

To help pay for repairs the charity hopes its ‘one million pennies’ appeal will raise they money without animal lovers feeling the pinch.

The RSPCA’s animal centre general manager, Tony Benham, said: “The weather has taken its toll on our cattery and kennels and we need your help.

“The boilers and heating system keeps failing and the extra cash just isn’t there to adequately fix it.

“It seems that the boilers are passed their serviceable life and just aren’t up to the job anymore. Unfortunately, due to the fact that we are a none government funded charity, our centre is struggling to afford the repairs or replace these boilers. This means that our residents are now starting to feel the cold - cats and dogs feel the drop in temperatures, just as we do.

“This is where we need your help and ask everyone to get involved. We are not asking for pounds, we are simply asking for your pennies. If we receive one million pennies we will have raised the £10,000 we need.

“Every penny really does count and so can yours.”

Money can be dropped off at the animal centre in Stadium Way, Attercliffe, or any of the RSPCA’s charity shops in Sheffield.
