Scheme ‘meets demand for luxury apartments’

DEVELOPERS in Sheffield are raising their sights to meet a demand for luxury apartments in the south west of the city.

They are changing tack over a site off Dore Road, aiming to offer accommodation in a gated community at a cost of between £700,000 and £1.4m.

City-based Metropolitan Homes say they have been encouraged by the response to the new Braemore luxury apartments off Ecclesall Road South. They are seeking council approval for 14 apartments, including two penthouses, in two three-storey blocks next to Dore Road Surgery after previously being given the go-ahead for detached houses.

Demand for Braemore prompted the switch. “Only six of the 28 apartments remain unsold and they are the smaller units,” said managing director Martin Flowers. “The larger apartments were the first to go, primarily to local people - there is clearly excess demand.

“As a result, we have decided that a development of large apartments will be the best way of meeting demand in Dore. In an ideal world, our buyers would prefer bungalows, but the land isn’t available, so we are offering bungalows in the sky.”

Apartments in the Dore Hall scheme will have three or four en-suite bedrooms and, according to the developers, the design of the blocks will be based on the Victorian villas common to the area.

Features include rainwater storage facilities, composting bins and solar panels.
