More than 300 people gathered at the showroom of bespoke kitchen and furniture maker, my fathers heart on Tuesday evening for the launch of Sheffield High School for Girls ‘A Celebration of the Arts’.

The pop up exhibition showcases the art from pupils at Sheffield Girls’ Junior and Senior School and Ashdell Prep, transforming the facility at Broadfield Business Park, Heeley into a gallery, which will be open to the public throughout March.

The artwork on display includes portraits, textiles and claywork, all of which has been created by pupils aged 4-18.

The ‘Welcome Portrait’, entitled ‘Andy - Homeless’ was painted by Year 12 Artist Anna Eason as part of her A-level coursework.

Speaking about the painting Anna said: “It is amazing to see my artwork as part of the exhibition. I was inspired to do a large study of a homeless man as I've always found the details in their faces and their expressions intriguing. They made me think about the interesting story behind them compared to an average, working man.

“Through producing this piece of work it became more apparent to me how 'normal' homeless people are and how equally deserving they are of a portrait, as a wealthy or iconic person.”
