School upgrade set to pass planning test

PROPOSALS to redevelop Notre Dame School in Fulwood Road, Ranmoor, are expected to pass another test next week.

The scheme – a mix of new build and refurbishment – has won the backing of city planners on the basis of improving facilities for students while avoiding any harm to the conservation area.

A loss of car parking on the campus may add to street parking but approval would be subject to traffic calming and waiting restrictions on Riverdale Road, Graham Road and Ranmoor Park Road.

Notre Dame is waiting for final approval of funding under the Government’s Building Schools for the Future programme. Despite national cutbacks, the council believes that Sheffield schools still in the pipeline for redevelopment are too far advanced to have their plans scrapped.

Councillors will discuss the situation on Tuesday.
