Scouts rising in popularity

NUMBERS of Scouts in Sheffield are at their highest for more than a decade.

Membership has grown for the seventh consecutive year and now stands at 3,432.

But without enough adult volunteers, waiting lists are at an all-time high with 263 names on the list.

Explorer Scout Georgina Clayton said: “Scouting has taught me not to fear my difficulties but to think of ways to overcome them and to have courage in everything I do.

“Whether singing on stage or climbing a mountain, Scouting has helped me develop life skills and experience new challenges in a fun and safe environment.”

About 2,000 Sheffield Scouts were at the City Hall last Sunday to remember St George, the patron saint of Scouting, and to celebrate Scouting. There were performances of music, song, dance and drama.
