Nathan, Richard, Tracey and Dale were the main makers on the project and enjoyed seeing their designs come to life, even if sometimes it was difficult to find the exact piece to fit.

Inspired by activities taking place in the area, they each drew their ideas before combining them into the final designs.

Wildflower meadows, butterflies, kites and a golden sun can all be found in the mosaic along with a hidden pub if you look closely enough.

The mosaics were commissioned by Manor and Castles Development Trust and now take pride of place either side of the entrance of York House. The centre is a hub of activity with everything from cooking for people with learning disabilities, to a lunch club and second hand clothing store taking place there.

Fiona Mannion, care services activity leader at Green Estate said: “Everyone loved getting involved in the project.

“They were so proud the day their artwork was put up.

“They couldn’t stop talking about how they hope the public enjoy looking at them as much as they did making them.”

Green Estate is not for profit organisation which has been working to improve the quality of life in the Manor & Castle wards of Sheffield since 1998.

Its main purpose was to create and manage local greenspaces in ways that turned them from liabilities into assets. Visit www.greenestate.org.uk/
