Sheffield charity appeals for support dogs

Charity Support Dogs is looking for clever canines to help transform the lives of children and adults affected by autism, epilepsy and physical disabilities.

The Sheffield-based organisation trains pooches a range of skills to mould them into specialist assistance dogs.

It does not have a breeding centre and as such recruits dogs from a number of sources, including rescue centres and pet dogs that need to be rehomed.

A spokesman for Support Dogs, said: “We are asking that if anyone has, or knows of, a pet dog that needs to be rehomed and is within a two hour drive from Sheffield, to consider Support Dogs, giving unwanted dogs a second chance and a loving home.

“We are currently looking for dogs aged between ten-months and three-years, who are confident with people and other dogs.

“All dogs will be assessed by the charity and some breeds may not be suitable for our programme.”
