Sheffield dog attack victim still critical

The 33-year-old suffered severe neck injuries in the attack in Spring Close View, Gleadless Valley, on Monday, February 22.

He was rushed to hospital, where he remains.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “There is no change in his condition.”

Police officers alerted to the attack seized the dog at the scene and arrested its 36-year-old owner on suspicion of offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act and Animal Welfare Act.

Neighbours said two brothers live in the flat where the attack took place.

The man quizzed over the attack was held on suspicion of possession of a banned breed, failing to keep a dog under proper control and allowing it to cause injury to a person.

He was also questioned on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

He has been bailed and his dog remains in police kennels.

In the UK there are four types of dog which are banned - Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino and Fila Braziliero.

It is also against the law to sell a banned dog, abandon a banned dog, give away a banned dog and breed from a banned dog.
