After a flat performance at Dewsbury, the Eagles head coach is searching for answers to his side’s lacklustre form in recent weeks ahead of Sunday’s showdown with James Lowes’ side at Odsal Stadium.

Changes are guaranteed for the trip to West Yorkshire, with the 48-year-old admitting he is working on the possibility of adding fresh faces to his outfit. Aston may yet get a boost from within his existing setup, hinting that centre Menzie Yere and winger Garry Lo could be fit for the weekend as the Eagles look to halt their slide down the Kingstone Press Championship.

“We have certainly missed Menzie Yere and Garry Lo,” Aston admitted. “We’ll look at Menzie, but we are hoping he will be right for the weekend. We are keeping our fingers crossed. If Garry Lo can get the green light from the specialist this week, then he’ll be in contention to play at the weekend.”

Yere missed the defeat to Dewsbury on Monday after picking up a hamstring strain in the Good Friday clash at Featherstone Rovers.

Lo had to wait for his opportunity in the side, but after making his debut in round three at Batley, he succumbed to a dislocated shoulder and has remained sidelined.

If fit, Lo will compete with youngster Ryan Millar for a place on the wing, with Ben Blackmore banned for two games.

The only other doubt is half-back Dave Hewitt who left the field against Dewsbury with a rib problem.

“Dave took a knock to his ribs, but we are asking him at 20-year-old to run this group of people – we need others to stand up,” Aston said of the former St Helens ace.

“Some of the lads should be embarrassed that they are relying on kids to get us out of this hole. Dave should be okay but he has done back-to-back games over last weekend and it has taken it out of him.”

The dates for the Eagles Challenge Cup fifth round tie against Super League outfit Wakefield Wildcats have been confirmed. Aston’s side will travel to Belle Vue on Friday 15th April, kick off 8pm. Tickets are on sale now, with advanced adult prices of £15.
