Scott Fitzgerald, of the Pitsmoor Shotta Boys, was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday after earlier admitting assault. Nine members of the gang were jailed earlier this month for a variety of criminal offences.

Fitzgerald, 22, of Beaumont Mews, Manor, and others attacked a 42-year-old woman in Oliver Street, Mexborough, in the early hours of June 18 last year. They hit her a number of times with a metal bar. During the attack the woman was also bitten by a dog.

She required hospital treatment for a range of injuries, including the dog bite and multiple fractures.

PC David Chadwick said: “This is another positive result for the Mexborough community and I hope the residents are reassured by the continued action taken by police and partners to disrupt those individuals who think they are above the law.

“This assault was brutal and completely unprovoked. The level of violence this man inflicted on a woman is staggering and I am pleased he is now behind bars where he belongs.”

Fitzgerald was also handed a criminal behaviour order.
