“The information was received after an unrelated collision was reported to police close to the location where the car left the carriageway, and those involved in the collision became aware of a car in the water.

“Emergency services and the regional underwater search unit attended and the car, a blue Nissan Primera, was pulled from the river.

“There are not thought to have been any other vehicles involved or any other people travelling in the Primera.”

Officers believe the fatal collision may have occurred between 5.30am and 6.30am.
