Sheffield MP calls for ‘fairer’ arts funding

Sheffield Central MP Paul Blomfield this week urged the Government to “rebalance” arts funding in England.

Opening a Parliamentary debate, he highlighted a report indicating that London is 15 times better funded per capita by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Arts Council than the rest of England.

“Add to this the disproportionate cuts to local authorities in the most deprived areas, and disproportionate levels of private investment between London and the regions, and Government claims about investment in the arts outside of London ring hollow,” said Mr Blomfield, whose constituency includes the Crucible and Lyceum.
