Sheffield people urged to take part in the '˜Hunger Aims' homelessness challenge

Ryan Webster, aged 22, Jonah Allen, 26, and Robelle Borjal, 22, have organised the event to raise funds for Cathedral Archer Project, a Sheffield charity which helps homeless people in the city.

The Sheffield Hallam students are also using the event to raise awareness of homelessness.

The Hunger Aims is an original fundraising concept, where participants gain sponsorship for a 24-hour fast, starting on March 15.

Participants will be given a treasure hunt and assigned tasks to complete for the following day with the aim to inform, educate, and support the charity.

Ryan said: “Homelessness is a growing issue in Sheffield and across the UK. Although charities like the Cathedral Archer Project work tirelessly to help ease the problem, more work can always be done - which is why we need your support.”

Jonah said: “Most of us rarely, if ever, have gone through 24 hours without food, so why not put yourselves in their shoes to see if you can complete the Hunger Aims.”

Robelle added: “Gain an insight into the everyday struggles a homeless person faces on our streets.”

After the fast, the students have organised a bumper feast for all participants – but all are invited.

Ryan said: “At the end of our 24 hour fast we’re hosting an evening at the foodhall to celebrate and change perceptions.

“Over the course of the evening there will be a meal provided by our valued food donors, guest speakers discussing homelessness, musicians and poetry readings from the ‘Lights Through The Shadow’ book compiled by clients of the Archer Project.

“If you are taking part in our 24 hour fast, entry is free and we encourage you to bring guests along.

“If you are wanting to come along for the evening alone, you can do so by making a pay as you feel donation either via our just giving page or on the night, all money raised is going towards Cathedral Archer “Project and the great work they do in helping Sheffield’s homeless and vulnerable adults.
