Sheffield politicians urged to ‘speak up’ on Israel

Sheffield politicians are being urged to ‘speak up loud and clear’ to end the crisis caused by conflict in Israel.

Sheffield Trade Union Council said MPs, council leaders and MEPs should act to make sure national leaders know the strength of feeling.

The alliance said: “As another shaky ceasefire commences we call upon Sheffield political leaders – our MPs, MEPs and council leaders – to speak up loud and clear and with one voice for an end to the this outrage.

“It is only the world leaders who can stop this. Our politicians must tell our national leaders what must be done.”

Protests against the situation in Gaza have taken place in Sheffield.

On Saturday a demonstration heard from Palestinian man Musheir El-Farra, who lives in Heeley and last week lost 11 relatives in an Israeli strike on Gaza.

Tomorrow, another national demonstration is taking place in London and coaches for Sheffield demonstrators will leave from Paternoster Row at 8am. The trades council has urged people to join the trip.
