Sheffield’S fourth ‘Pride’ event is to take place on Saturday July 16 at Endcliffe Park.
Sheffield Pride 2010 was the most successful to date with an estimated turnout of 8000 people from around the country showing up to celebrate.
The preparations for the next Sheffield Pride are already well underway.
“We want to ensure Sheffield Pride 2011 continues to raise the bar for live music events in South Yorkshire,” said Nik King, Chair of the Pride committee.
“There’s going to be a main stage, a community area, beer tent, and a dedicated spot for the children, as well as a number of new and interesting things to look out for, so keep your eyes peeled!”
Sheffield Pride is one of the biggest live music events for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community in South Yorkshire and prides itself on its inclusive, attitude-free environment designed to increase the visibility of Sheffield’s LGBT communities.
“It is important for a fun, non-political event to exist in order to draw attention to the importance of equality and to highlight homophobia that people from marginalised LGBT communities may suffer,” Nik added.
“It is a time to celebrate similarities and differences as a community and we thank all those individuals, businesses and organisations that support the LGBT community throughout the year.”
Sheffield Pride has also been nominated for the ‘Best Local Event’ at the Exposed Awards.
“The committee would like to thank everyone who voted for Sheffield Pride at the Exposed awards,” commented David Baker, PR & Communications Officer.
“It would be amazing to win but just being nominated reminds us why we work so hard throughout the year to create a Pride event - because it makes an impact on people’s lives.”
