JOY Speed will be running in memory of her mum in the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run in Sheffield on September 2.
The 22-year-old, from Millhouses, will be raising money for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity. Joy was four when Gillian Speed was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994. After chemotherapy and radiotherapy at Weston Park, she was given the all-clear in 1998, but the cancer returned in 2001 and she died four years later, when Joy was 15.
Joy, who has just finished a teaching degree at Hallam University, said: “My mum and I used to do the Race for Life every year and I think she’d be really proud that I’m doing the BUPA Great Yorkshire Run this year and carrying on fundraising in her memory.”
