A group of charities are almost £70,000 better off thanks to fundraising support from a Sheffield sports venue.
Owlerton Greyhound Stadium helped raise £68,450 for 30 good causes in 2014.
Organisations including Ella’s Fund and Bluebell Wood hosted race nights and special events at Owlerton to raise funds. And the stadium’s annual Ladies’ Day raised more than £5,000 for St Luke’s Hospice.
Owlerton also regularly fundraises for the Sheffield Retired Greyhound Trust.
John Gilburn, the stadium’s managing director, said: “We’re proud to support a number of local charities each year. In fact, since 2010, we have helped raise more than £230,000 for local, regional and national good causes.”
One of the organisations to benefit was St Wilfrid’s – a day centre for homeless and vulnerable people in Sheffield - which raised £3,000 at an Owlerton race night.
The money has gone towards a £1.8m appeal to build a new residential centre.
St Wilfrid’s director Kevin Bradley said: “It was a great pleasure to work with Owlerton. We not only raised money for our residential fund but also enjoyed a great night out.”
