THE University of Sheffield Students’ Union RAG has received an overwhelming response to its Christmas Charity Food Bank Collection.

RAG - Raising and Giving – is Sheffield Students’ Union’s fundraising body, supporting a range of charitable causes every year from large scale fundraising challenges to bake sales and collections.

Between December 3 and 14 students and university staff were invited to donate items of dried and packaged food, which were donated to Sheffield’s Mount Tabor Parson Cross Food Bank.

And the organisation provides food boxes for families and individuals in crisis.

More than 250 items were collected - from tinned stews, vegetables and soups to pasta, coffee and selection boxes.

Community Fundraiser Lauren Simpson said: “Sadly, in the current climate, food banks are increasingly in demand.

“The response we’ve had has been amazing and we’d like to thank everybody for their donations.

“We received parcels containing baby food, Christmas puddings and Halal cookies, as well as plenty of important ingredients for people to provide good-quality meals for their families.”
