The new skipper, who was an inspiration in helping the club reach last season’s Grand Final, is delighted with the line-up.

But ahead of Saturday’s trip to Ipswich he is warning the team to focus and hit the ground running.

“We look a good team on paper – but it’s time for us to deliver on track now the season is here,” he said.

“We had a good season getting to the final last year but we have to start again and we need to make a good start.

“Personally I’m delighted to be back here and I’m honoured to be captain, I’ll be doing all I can to ensure we have a successful season.”

Tigers stage their press and practice session today at Owlerton with a 5.30 start followed by a meet the riders event in the Panorama Room.

“I’m looking forward to seeing everyone and it will be a good workout for the lads,” said Howarth.

“I’m sure the practice will come in handy before we go to Ipswich and then we have Somerset here next Thursday.”

The Somerset meeting at Owlerton is expected to attract a packed house with the club offering free admission in a bid to win new supporters.

“Fair play to the club,” said Howarth. “To offer a free meeting is a bold move and I hope the terraces are full and we can keep some of the first timers for future meetings.”
