Adkins, who earlier this month made Middlesbrough defender Alex Baptiste his first signing of the emergency loan window, is open to the possibility of making at least one more addition to United’s first team squad before March 24th’s deadline. With Marc McNulty scheduled to remain with Portsmouth until the end of the present campaign and Jose Baxter suspended after testing positive for cocaine, Kent’s ability to operate as a second striker has seen him included on United’s list of possible new recruits although Adkins’ switch to a 3-5-2 formation has lessened the need for an out-and-out wideman.

Kent, aged 19, impressed during a four month spell at Coventry City earlier this term before being recalled to Anfield by Jurgen Klopp. Tony Mowbray, Adkins’ counterpart at the Ricoh Arena, recently cited Kent’s departure as a reason behind City’s chequered form of late.

“He was a young lad learning his trade,” Mowbray said. “But he had a fantastic ability to pick the ball up and run our team 60 yards up the pitch.”
