Sheffield United: On-loan goalkeeper Dean Henderson reveals why he has fallen in love with Bramall Lane

The goalkeeper made the admission ahead of tomorrow's Euro 2019 qualifier between England under-21's and Andorra, when he is expected to win his latest cap for the Young Lions.

Although Henderson described United as the "first big club" he has represented since leaving Manchester United on loan, the 21-year-old revealed Wilder's management style has also strengthened his emotional attachment to Bramall Lane.

"You know where you stand with him," Henderson said. "Some managers try and go under the radar and do this and that. But with the gaffer, he is straight and if you are doing something wrong, he will tell and if you are doing something well, then he will give you a pat on the back.

"Then if he doesn't say too much, you know to keep doing what you are doing because you are obviously in his good books. That is what you need from a manager, honesty. It's been really good so far."

Henderson, who is expected to start the meeting with Justo Ruiz's side, has been a driving force behind United's climb to the top of the Championship table after keeping three clean sheets in his last five games. With England needing only a point from their final two Group Four ties to qualify for next year's finals, Henderson will be hoping to continue that form at Chesterfield's Proact Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm).

Speaking soon after his season long move to United was completed, Henderson spoke in brutally frank terms about how some of his contemporaries prefer to be indulged by top-flight clubs rather than gain experience in the English Football League.

Wilder has frequently voiced similar complaints and, providing another glimpse of life behind the scenes at the Steelphalt Academy, Henderson explained how the 51-year-old's character is in tune with his own.

"I have seen a few grumpy mornings, but that is the same with every manager. No-one likes to lose and certainly not him, being a Sheffield United fan. What I love about this club is that they have got someone like that in."

Henderson joined the former Premier League champions in 2011 and despite being on the fringes of the first team, has preferred to spend most of his time in the North-West out on loan. After impressing for Stockport County and Grimsby Town, it was his performances for last season's League One play-off finalists Shrewsbury Town which convinced Wilder to make an approach.

"I've bought into it here, completely bought into it, and that's something I've done everywhere," Henderson said. "This is the first really big club for me, with a really big fan base, and the atmosphere at our place gives me goosebumps every time. They are memories that will live with you for the rest of your career."
