Sheffield Waterstones hosts an evening with bestselling author of The Bone Season trilogy

Samantha Shannon, bestselling author of the fantasy novels known as The Bone Season series will be discussing her work and signing copies of her new book The Song Rising (Bloomsbury £12.99) at a special event in store on Friday March 31 from 7pm.

Samantha Shannon was still a student when she published the first of her 7-bone cycle The Bone Season, set in a gothic vision of future London where humans with a capacity to contact the undead are persecuted for their abilities. Since then, The Bone Season and its sequel, The Mime Order have sold over 300,000 copies globally. After a heated auction, film rights to The Bone Season were optioned by The Imaginarium Studios, a British film company led by Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings) and Jonathan Cavendish (producer of Bridget Jones’s Diary). 20th Century Fox have subsequently teamed with Chernin Entertainment to acquire The Bone Season.

The Song Rising is the hotly anticipated third book in the Bone Season trilogy - a ground-breaking, dystopian fantasy of extraordinary imagination. Following a bloody battle against foes on every side, Paige Mahoney has risen to the dangerous position of Underqueen, ruling over London’s criminal population. But, having turned her back on Jaxon Hall and with vengeful enemies still at large, the task of stabilising the fractured underworld has never seemed so challenging. Little does Paige know that her reign may be cut short by the introduction of Senshield, a deadly technology that spells doom for the clairvoyant community and the world as they know it …
