Sheffield Wednesday: Cardiff draw would be enough for Owls but not Carlos Carvalhal

Carlos Carvalhal will steadfastly refuse to go conservative at the weekend - even though a draw against Cardiff City will be enough for Sheffield Wednesday to secure a top-six spot.

Wednesday lead seventh-placed Cardiff by four points with two games to go and will cement a play-off place if they avoid defeat to the Welsh side at Hillsborough on Saturday.

But Carvalhal insists he will send out his players in the same manner as always - to attack.

“We know one point will be enough to achieve the sixth position but we play all the games all the season to try to win and fight for the three points,” he said.

“We will do the same in the next game and the game after that.”

Cardiff’s last-gasp win against Bolton Wanderers saw them cut the Owls’ advantage to four points following their draw at Derby.

Carvalhal insists the pressure on his side will not be intense during this weekend’s clash as their top-six destiny will remain in their hands even if they are beaten.

He said: “We are not completely under pressure.

“Even with whatever happens on Saturday, we have the Wolves game left to play.

“It means we must just focus on the next game, do what we are doing in the quality we have been doing it in.

“We expect a nice environment on Saturday with our fans and we are absolutely sure we will show the power of Hillsborough.”

Wednesday have warned supporters there is unlikely to be a pay-on-the-gate option for Saturday’s clash.

The club are expecting their highest league attendance of the season. The previous biggest crowd was 29,668 against Charlton Athletic in March.
