The Owls will be aiming to make amends after their disappointing performance and result at Burton Albion in midweek. Having watched his side fall to a 3-1 defeat at the Pirelli Stadium, Carvalhal is set to freshen up his team.

Midfielder turned defender Jose Semedo remains a big injury concern, having been forced off in the first half against the Brewers.

New addition David Jones is in the frame to make his Wednesday debut, having arrived for an undisclosed fee from Burnley this week.

Fresh off apologising for refusing to face Norwich City last Saturday, Fernando Forestieri is expected to start up front while Tom Lees could also be involved if the defender shakes off a foot injury.

Carvalhal expects a strong response from his players and told The Star: “The fans will be important again to create a positive environment to our players. Our fans know when they give an answer like this that the players will respond.

“I’m sure with their support we will react very fast.”

Around 1,600 Wednesdayites cheered the team on at Championship newcomers Burton and Carvalhal admitted: “They were fantastic. They were the best of us.”

The Owls sit in mid-table after collecting four points from their opening three outings.

“Our beginning has not easy as we have played two away games and only one at home,” said Carvalhal.

“We have played two of the relegated teams (Aston Vill and Norwich City) so it has not been easy. We have four points at the moment. It’s not bad but we wish we had more.”
