Sheffield Wednesday: Derby boss wants to build momentum for play-offs

Derby’s 3-2 win at Bristol City on Tuesday night was enough to seal a top six finish and allows them to focus on preparations for the semi-finals.

Victory at Ashton Gate took the Rams’ recent run to four straight wins and boss Wassall is keen to maintain the form over the final three games of the regular season.

“The mentality now is to keep this run going, keep the momentum going, keep the form going and make sure we’re ready for the semi-finals,” he said.

“It’s great we can be talking with three games to go that we’re gearing up to a two-legged semi-final which is really important.”

Derby have a chance to take a good look at two potential play-off rivals in their next two fixtures, first against Wednesday in today’s lunchtime kick off and then away at Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday week.

Wassall refuses to see the games as two tougher than normal tests and continues to focus on his own team.

He said: “Every game is a good test in this league.

“It’s 13 games that I’ve been in charge and every game is a good test. It’s a very tight league where everybody can beat everybody so it’s important you get some form behind you, and some momentum and some performances like we have done. “We’re building momentum, we’re building our form and we’re all very pleased with how it’s going at the moment but we’re not going to take our foot off the gas.

“We’re going into the game with Sheffield Wednesday looking to put on another great performance.

I’ve been consistent all along in saying that I’m not bothered about other teams. It’s what we do.”
