Sheffield Wednesday: How close is Daniel Pudil to an Owls comeback?

Injured defender Daniel Pudil could be back in first-team contention for Sheffield Wednesday's final match before the international break.

The centre-half hasn't played since damaging his groin in the final stages of the 2-0 Championship defeat at Brentford earlier this month.

But boss Jos Luhukay, whose side bowed out of the Carabao Cup 2-0 against Premier League Wolves at Hillsborough yesterday, isn't ruling out the 32-year-old for the Championship clash at the Madejski Stadium.

Pudil is being assessed by the club's medical staff.

"We have Thursday and Friday training and we will see how people are," the manager said. "I think Daniel is possible for Saturday."

The Owls have a fortnight without a match after this weekend and hope central defender Joost van Aken will recover from an ankle problem during that time.

"Joost is definitely not available (for Reading)," Luhukay said. "We hope he is back after the international break."

The deadline for loan transfers is 5pm this Friday and there has been no activity at Hillsborough so far.

"There is no movement," Luhukay said. "Maybe in the next two or three days, but there is no concrete situation."

The boss has previously said that he expects to do business this week following the lifting of the club's transfer embargo.
